My dream car is a 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 S. Needless to say, I'd love to own one. But !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! recently sold for $1.27-million so as you might guess, it's a tad out of my price range. That's why I have an attainable dream car in my head.
The dream car that I could realistically afford some day is a 1968 Corvette Stingray like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . C3 Corvette prices are pretty reasonable compared to the money that C2 Sting Rays exchange for. The ad I've linked is asking $22,500 OBO for a very clean car with a manual transmission and I've seen ratty ones sell for less than $20,000.
It might not be as exotic as the Miura, but the 1968-9 Corvette is a dream car that I could hope to afford. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I really want one badly.
They go for like $40K+......maybe one day....
But if I could get something Right now....
It would be one of two cars....

This, but without the ugly wheels
That one's way on the high end as far as pricing for a non-XR7 2-barrel Cleveland car, but good driver examples can be found for around $20k.

Subaru SVX. I fell in love with these cars 5 years ago, and have wanted one every since.
Less attainable, but still doable: 1997 Subaru Legacy Touring GT-B Limited. Prices are pretty low now, but they aren't legal yet for a few more years.

Citroën DS. Preferably a late-model DS23 with the five-on-the-tree transmission, but I'd take the four-speed semiautomatic too, just because it's so damn weird.
I got the chance to drive one a while back, and although I've always liked them, actually getting behind that glorious single-spoke steering wheel made me realise just how much I need one in my life.

People will probably laugh, but it's a Citroen Traction Avant. I'd love an early car, but realistically I'm looking at a 50-something, either an older restoration or a well-preserved survivor. Vintage looks, unique technology, surprising usability, much cheaper than a DS.

Oh yeah, they are definitely appreciating. But I´m not too worried about the Alfa. We´ve got tons of them over here. Not even mentioning the Junior 1600/2000´s. I´m way more worried about the Porsche 912. Not so long ago (2/3 years) you could get a decent one for around 15K euro´s. Which was dirt cheap for essentially a lighter, more nimble long nose 911.
Nowadays its almost impossible to buy a decent 912 for under 25K euros.

hah! Yeah, 912's are over $30k if they start and run, and really good ones are pushing $90k. 20 years ago you couldn't GIVE one away in the US. I'm not a Porsche-guy but I wish I had taken advantage of a very clean $3500 example I knew was for sale in the early 90's... :/
90's American Porsche Buyer: "The 912? why would you waste your money on that? It's a 911 with a Beetle engine... spend the dough to trick out a Super-Beetle if you want that performance. Pass!"
2015 American Porsche Buyer: "OMG! ALL TEH 912s WENT TO TO JUNK YARDS IN THE 80s and 90's!!! SAVE THE 912s! IT'S LIKE A MORE MODERN 356! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!! "

In The United States of America Unequal Wealth Distribution, collector cars are investments and only rich people are allowed to own them lest their monetary worth be spoilt by having contact with teh poors. If you think this is not the case, it's only because Jalopnik/Oppo represent the outsiders, not the mainstream.

And then just drive them like they were ment to be driven. Lets call it leading by example haha. And eventually sell it for a fat profit. Whats not to like?

here's some fun info:
http://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools…
These reflect reported prices of owners insured by Hagerty, the "real" market is often quite a bit higher, unless you "know someone", often the "4" condition is extrapolated from sales of nicer versions which are insured through Hagerty, while actually many of the "4" condition cars are not currently registered or insured for the road and change hands for far above the extrapolated price.

If we're talking a few years down the road attainable:
^Depending on appreciation/depreciation
If we're talking more near term attainability:
^Just a waiting game to see when I'll have less hoops to jump through so I can import one with the clear intent of driving the damn thing
Now, can I convince myself that these are good uses of the money is a completely different question.

Wow, that´s a great TA. The ad says its in great shape and drives like a charm. Furthermore, the (Dutch) seller actually changed the interior roof lining and carpet last year. He also had it appraised at 18K euro. But he´s asking a negotiable 12.500. Which means that you can probably pick it up for around € 11K. € 10K if you´re lucky (/bold enough).
They are great cars btw, my granddad actually used to own one back in the day. He sold it for a Peugeot 404 pick up in the early 80´s. Which he still owns.

Any Lotus Esprit from the 90's SE and up to the final 2003 V8/TT. My first choice would be a UK spec Esprit V8 GT - lighter than the normal V8 model, and doesn't have the rear spoiler (which makes it look better IMO). I also really love the Esprit S4S, which was the pinnacle of the 4 cylinder cars.

Love the RX7 - out of all the 90's Japanese sports cars, the RX7 TT aged the best imo. Even though I am strongly biased owning a VR4, I can admit this.
